Effective April 14, 2009 the Environmental Health Services and Safety & Risk Management will relocate from the Zapata County Community Center to the Animal Control Shelter.	Approval of the award bid for the construction of the expansion of the San Ygnacio Muncipal Waste Landfill was approved by the Zapata County Commissioners Court March 27, 2009.

Opened on October 2008 at the Zapata County Landfill site.
Accepts old refrigerators, stoves, furniture, mattresses, etc.
Appliances are sold for scrap metal while furniture and scrap metal are hauled for disposal in Laredo.
