Cattle Brands

Livestock is required to have distinct earmarks and brands which shall be recorded with the clerk of the county in which the livestock is located according to the Texas Agriculture Code, Sections 144.041-144.004.

The county clerk is required to maintain a record of all livestock marks and brands.

$26.00 per brand or mark

Record all marks and brands every ten (10) years with the county clerk beginning August 30, 1981.

The original, legal-size form is used to record the information in the Zapata County Official Public Records and a copy is mailed to the Texas State Cattle Association. Also, a book is still retained as a quick reference to pictures of county brands.
